80th Anniversary of the 442nd RCT — HPR Broadcast

Hawaii Public Radio (HPR) broadcast a program commemorating the 80th anniversary of the creation of the 442nd RCT. The unit was created in February 1943. Thousands of young Nisei from Hawaii volunteered to serve amidst an atmosphere of strong discrimination against the Japanese in this country. They would go on to fight on the battlefields of Europe alongside other Nisei who volunteered to serve from internment camps on the mainland.

Lynn Heirakuji of the NVL; Royce Higa, veteran of the 442nd; and Sage Tottori, Island Pacific Academy senior were interviewed for the program.
